On Friday 21 February 2014 the village of Kufr Qaddoum held it’s regular Friday demonstration to attempt to open their connecting road to Nablus and Ramallah. The Israeli Army were back to the business of violence, firing volleys of tear gas at the demonstrators and rubber coated steel bullets.
On Wednesday night 6 villagers were detained in the Army’s regular terror raids on the village to try and suppress the resistance. 3 villagers were later released, however 3 villagers were arrested, including Fares Nidal Aql who had been badly beaten by the Army.
Murad Shteiwi, spokesperson for the village said:
We, the people of Kufr Qaddoum, believe in our right to use our road freely. But our struggle is not just to open our road, but to end occupation. We face suppression in all aspects from the Israeli Army: arrests, invasions; destruction of homes; and checkpoints. But we will not give up.
In previous weeks a bizarre situation occurred with the Army irnoically begging the demonstrators to remain non-violent, citing that a female soldiers was in their ranks. This of course was all a public relations show as an official from the UN was present at the time. The Army is now back to their violent tactics.
SFP calls on all people of good conscience around the world to abide by the Palestinian request for a boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) of Apartheid Israel, to hold it to account for its war crimes, in the absence of action by international governments. Villagers like Kufr Qaddoum are bravely struggling for their freedom. We ask you to support them in their struggle. To find out how to boycott and join the campaign please click here.
