On Friday afternoon, as SFP activists left the nearby village of Madama, criminal settlers from the illegal settlement of Bracha, attacked the village of Burin. The settlers attacked the area known as Al Mnatir. As the villagers defended the area the Army arrived and fired tear gas and stun grenades at the villagers.
Burin and it’s neighbouring village of Madama have been subjected to virtual siege the last few weeks, with regular Army checkpoints between the villages, preventing the passage of villagers and visitors. Two nights ago an SFP activist that lives in Burin, upon his return from Nablus, was attacked by soldiers at one of these checkpoints and threatened. The local Israeli Army commander has threatened “dark days” to come for the two villages.
Burin, Madama and Asira Al Qibliya are surrounded by the illegal settlements of Bracha and Yitzhar, home to some of the most violent criminal settlers, responsible for numerous attacks on Palestinians, their property and olive trees. Despite so called negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Apartheid Israel, these illegal settlements expand at a pace, squeezing the villages as they steal more land. The Army then continually harasses and intimidates villagers, while also subjecting them to nightly kidnapping raids.
SFP asks all people of conscience around the world to abide by the Palestinians request for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Apartheid Israel. To find out how to boycott and join the campaign please click here.
