11/04/15: SFP talks popular resistance with students at the American University, Jenin

On Saturday 11 April SFP, joined by International Women’s Peace Service (IWPS) held a seminar and workshop to discuss popular resistance with students and management at the American University in Jenin.

SFP activists and IWPS volunteers discussed with the students popular resistance, the importance of the youth in strengthening that resistance and the role of internationals in providing solidarity. SFP activists also told the students about SFP’s work with farmers and Women’s collectives encouraging students to join and help the movement expand. While IWPS volunteers discussed the role of international volunteers within Palestine and in their home countries through boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) work.

SFP emphasised the respectful relationship between international and Palestinian activists, one SFP incorporates into all its work, including respect for the international martyrs of the Palestinian struggle – Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall and Vittorio Arrigoni.

SFP welcomes volunteers, particularly Palestinian volunteers to build a strong non-aligned popular resistance movement. SFP is wholly led and organised by Palestinians, working with and inviting various international groups to join in our activities. If you would like more details on how to join SFP please click here.

N.B. Please note SFP does not work with any Israeli groups or individuals.

27/02/15: SFP honour the martyr Muataz Washaha 1 year on from his brutal murder

One year after the brutal murder of 24 year old Muataz Washaha by the Israeli Army, SFP visited his family in Birzeit to pay their respects and honour his memory. In London international SFP volunteers also paid their respects to Muataz, demonstrating outside British-Dutch firm G4S.

On the morning of 27 February 2014 the Israeli Army invaded the village of Birzeit, near Ramallah, and surrounded the home of the Washaha family.  The Israeli Army besieged a the home, forcibly evacuated its residents and those of neighboring houses, destroyed parts of it and set the rest on fire.

Even more cruelly, the military kept the family watching as their belongings and memories burned and as Muataz Washaha, who was active in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was attacked.

The Israeli occupation forces had stormed the Washaha family’s house, looking for Muataz. They assaulted members of the Washaha family and detained his brother, Ramiz, as well as his friends Fadi Sedqi and Samir al-Qaisi.

A few months had only just passed since 24-year-old Muataz Washaha was released from an Israeli prison. He knew very well what being imprisoned meant for he refused to surrender to the Israeli military. He prefered to barricade himself in a corner of his house and resist arrest. He chose to die within his home, where he had spent his childhood and youth.

Do not worry. I will be free here. Leave and do not worry about me. I will stay here and not surrender. I will not return to prison.

These were the last words Muataz Washaha uttered to a civil defense worker, who was the last person to have access to him before the house was evacuated of everyone else.

The civil defense man had no choice than to kiss Muataz’s forehead and leave, respecting his wish.

Soon afterwards, the Israeli military located Muataz with its sophisticated technology and started shooting live bullets and shells at him. He was called on to turn himself in but Muataz would not. After the withdrawal of the Israeli forces, Muataz’s body was found torn by tens of live bullets.

Shortly after Muataz’s murder SFP activists visited Muataz’s family. They had this to say to the world:

SFP pays tribute to Muataz and all Palestine’s freedom fighters who have lost their lives in the struggle. SFP reaffirmed our commitment to freedom and justice and said “we will never surrender”.

23/02/15: JVS report – Nihad Ali Alajul killed after Israeli Police harassment

Today, on the 23rd of February 2015, the Israeli police tried to stop a Palestinian car in order to impose a fine on the driver. While the Israeli police were following the Palestinian driver/vehicle, the car became involved in a collision, and the driver died. His name was Nihad Ali Alajul. He was 32 years old and was a father to four children. This happened in Al-Juflik village in the Central Jordan Valley, after Hamra checkpoint.

Today, as in every other day, the Israeli police work hard to fine Palestinian drivers on the road. Today they also gave a fine to one Palestinian Jordan Valley Solidarity activist for 250 Israeli shekels. This is the third fine this activist has received in the past three months, amounting to 1,500 shekels.

These actions are part of Israel’s apartheid occupation policies, which applies daily pressure on the lives of Palestinian people, families and communities. The police are supposed to enforce the law and to protect the people, but here they are working alongside the Israeli army to enforce the transfer of Palestinians from their lands by scaring the people. The police give Palestinians no opportunity to speak out to protect their rights.

10/08/14: Popular resistance targeted by Apartheid Israel

At approximately 01:20am on Sunday morning the Israeli Army invaded the village of Tell, west of Nablus city. The Army invaded the downtown area of the village and stormed the homes of the Hindi family. The Army vandalised the home of Jihad Hassan Hindi (22 years old) and demanded to know where he was, he was not home at the time.

The Army detained Jihad’s family for over two hours, demanding they call him and persuade him to surrender to them, under threat to his family members. Jihad, a member of the popular resistance in Nablus, refused to surrender and the youth of the village bravely defended against the attacking Army, who fired rubber-coated steel bullets at them and stun grenades.

Due to the threats made against his family, particularly the female members of his family (his mother and sister), a common tactic by the Israeli Army, Jihad was forced later to go to Huwwara Military camp. We are awaiting to hear whether the Israeli Army will detain Jihad.Apartheid Israel consistently targets activists from the non-violent popular resistance movement. Palestinians have been imprisoned across the West Bank area of Palestine for their involvement in non-violent resistance to the illegal occupation of their land.

07/08/14: SFP and Tanweer spread the message of boycott on the streets of Nablus again

Following on from SFP and Tanweer volunteers work earlier in the week, activists again took to the streets of Nablus and spread their message of boycott to the shopkeepers and residents of Nablus. The activists also distributed certificates to shopkeepers praising them for their bravery in removing Israeli products from their stores and supporting the call for boycott.

In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. A truly global movement against Israeli Apartheid is rapidly emerging in response to this call. SFP and Tanweer fully support the boycott and encourage people around the world as well as within Palestine to join the campaign and spread the message wide and far. To read the call and find out how to boycott please click here.

31/07/14: Breaking down the prison walls

Today activists from SFP and volunteers of the Bilal Najjar Cultural Centre in Burin donated blood for their injured brothers and sisters in Gaza. SFP also visited the family of two prisoners (Maher Samara and Thaer Najjar) to show their solidarity and pledge to break down all the prison walls, whether they are around Gaza, the West Bank or Apartheid Israel’s prisons.

Thaer Najjar from Burin was kidnapped by the Israeli Army yesterday. Today he appeared in Salem Military Court and was detained for a further 7 days. His next court appearance is due on Wednesday 6 August. He is being held in Meggido Apartheid Israeli prions, inside the 1948 borders in direct violation of international law. SFP activists visited his mother and father in Burin village to show their support and commitment to continue the struggle for freedom until all the prisoners are home free.

SFP would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those around the world showing solidarity with Palestine, particularly the Palestinians imprisoned and under bombardment in Gaza. As the death toll climbs even higher, to over 1400, we ask you all to step up the pressure, particularly on those business and Government’s enabling and supporting the Occupation in it’s massacre.

29/07/14: SFP continues to show solidarity with Gaza, visiting Gazans

Just as SFP activists did the previous day, on the second day of Eid Al-Fitr, activists visited Al Arabe hospital in Nablus to pay respects to two Gazans being treated at the hospital. Activists listened to their stories of horror and pledged to the two women that they would remain active, working for a free Palestine and an end to Israeli impunity.

Umunarwar Bachtite (39 years old) and Leila Sultan (50 years old from Khan Younis) had both undergone open heart surgery at the hospital, arriving in Nablus before the current Israeli massacre. They had left behind their families and friends, unable to travel to western Palestine and could only watch the horror unfolding on television.

Umunarwar is from the devastated Shujjaiya neighbourhood, which was the site of a massacre last week. Umunarwar’s home was destroyed in the bombing and her family have now joined the 10% of the Gazan population defined as ‘Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)”.

So far, more than 1,100 people Palestinians have been murdered by Israel. The UN said yesterday that 229 of the victims have been children but more have reportedly been killed since. Last night Israeli bombardment was at it’s worse since the attack began. In addition, in the West Bank area of Palestine Alaa’ Jihad Al-Zghir (21 years old from Idhna, Hebron) succumbed to his wounds inflicted by the Israeli Army 9 days ago and died today.

SFP asks everyone around the world to join the Palestinian struggle for freedom. We particularly asks that even when Palestine is no longer headline news, people remain on the streets and demand an end to the illegal Occupation and Israeli impunity from war crimes prosecutions.

28/07/14: SFP visits injured Gazans on Eid Al-Fitr

SFP activists, accompanied by international supporters, visited injured Gazans at An-Najah National University Hospital in Nablus on the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Fitr. SFP spoke to their families and heard their stories of horror, extending their solidarity and respect to Gaza and all Palestinians suffering due to the illegal Occupation of their land.

An-Najah hospital has taken in 2 Gazans injured due to the Israeli attacks. Doctors stated they are expecting a further 5 either later today or tomorrow.

12 year old Musa Shaadi Masardiq was transferred to the hospital 2 days ago after sustaining life threatening injuries in an Israeli bombardment of his home neighbourhood of Maghazi 5 days previously. Musa underwent an operation yesterday and is in life support, unable to breath on his own. He was hit in the lower abdomen destroying his colon, intestine and several damaging all his organs. The next 48 hours are critical for little Musa as he struggled to live. SFP activists spoke to his mother, who was the only family member given permission to travel with Musa, and her face spoke a thousand words. She also told SFP that she still has 4 other children in Gaza and fears for their safety.

67 year old Fatima Odet was transferred to Nablus on 21 July from central Gaza. She was injured due to the Israeli bombardment and is suffering multiple injuries: hip fracture; fracture of 7 ribs; large laceration across her forehead from falling debris; and multiple trauma. The doctor explained they fear for any internal bleeding. Fatima was awake and able to speak to SFP, who passed on their best wishes for her speedy recovery and their absolute unwavering solidarity with Gaza.

An-Najah is also treating 6 Gazan cancer patients. 19 year old Muhammad Barka from Khan Younis was transferred on 26 June. As well as his cancer the doctors were also able to operate on his knee, where he had an old gun shot wound from previous Israeli massacres.

Activists also visited the Zachikia family from Zeitoun area. Zachikia’s wife explained how they had to wait for months to get permission from Israel, which maintains a total blockade around Gaza, to transfer to the West Bank for her husbands vital cancer treatment. Only his wife was given permission to make the journey with him. They are from the Zeitoun area of Gaza near to the residential neighbourhood of Shujaiyya, the site of an Israeli massacre last week and now virtually destroyed. Zachikia and his wife spoke about how several of their family members had lost their homes in the relentless Israeli bombardment.

SFP paid their respects to the doctors at An-Najah hospital, who work tirelessly to treat the sick and injured. SFP also extends that respect to all Palestinians doctors and medical workers, particularly those in Gaza that are working around the clock to treat the thousands and thousands of injured. This is on top of the fact that the hospitals in Gaza are being targeted by the Israeli Army, which has already bombed 4 of the main hospitals. The protection and safety of medical workers should be sacrosanct as stated under international law.

Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian medical workers and medical facilities add to the list of war crimes the Occupation commits with impunity. SFP asks medical workers and particularly trade unions and their representative bodies around world to show solidarity with Gazan doctors and demand an end to the targeting of Palestinian medical workers and facilities and the bringing to justice of war criminals.

27/07/14: SFP says it loud “We are all Gaza: No Eid while everyday shaheed”

On Sunday afternoon activists from SFP marched to the central square in Nablus to take their message to the people:

We are all Gaza: No Eid while everyday Shaheed (martyrs)

The activists chanted slogans in support of Gaza and asked the people of Nablus to show respect and cancel the upcoming Eid celebrations. They also sang liberation songs to the crowd that gathered.

Following the demonstration in the central square the activists then proceeded to Huwwara village, just south of Nablus, to pay their respects to the families of the two martyrs murdered on Friday 25 July.

Khaled Azmi Khaled Yousef, 18, was murdered, and three were injured on Friday when an Israeli settler drove by and opened fire at a protest march. The Army then arrived on the scene and shot dead Tayeb Abu Shehada, 22 years old.

After a short ceasefire Israel has resumed its massacre of the Palestinians of Gaza. To date 1,014 have been murdered, of whom 832 are civilians, including 221 children and 121 women. 4,706 have been wounded, mostly civilians, including 1,263 children and 939 women. Over 160,000 forcibly displaced and 561 homes targets and destroyed.

SFP implores people around the world to join the struggle for freedom. We also ask that those around the world that have already taken to the streets in solidarity remain on the streets until Palestine is free and the refugees are able to return home. Finally we kindly ask that our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world limit their Eid celebrations in respect for those being murdered and under illegal siege and Occupation.
