31/03/15: SFP, JVS and the Women’s Union reaffirm their steadfastness on the land in Fasayil

On 31 March 2015 SFP activists joined Jordan Valley Solidarity campaign, the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, the Tanweer Centre and villagers to plant olive, citrus and thyme in Fasayil in the Jordan Valley. The action came as part of SFP’s action to commemorate Land Day, reaffirming the right and steadfastness on the land. Activists were accompanied by international activists from the Internation Women’s Peace Service (IWPS).

Fasayil is located in the Jordan Valley, an area designated Area C under the Oslo Accords. This means Apartheid Israel has full civil and military control over the lives of the Palestinian villagers. They are unable to access their water, farm their land, or live without constant harrassment and risk of home demolitions. Activists planted in an area of the village under imminent threat of demolition to assert their right to their land.

Following planting the activists then helped the villages move homemade mud bricks used for building. Building materials, such as concrete, is prohibited by Apartheid Israel, forcing the villagers to improvise, making their own mud bricks for construction, in defiance of the Occupation.

SFP’s sister organisation, JVS, works tirelessly in the Jordan Valley helping Palestinians remain steadfast on the land. SFP reaffirmed their commitment today to further supporting the communities in the Jordan Valley area with more crops and support.

We would like to thank everyone that has already donated to our campaign to raise funds for olive trees and thyme. We would be very grateful if you would consider continuing to donate so we may help more communities and villages. Please share our campaign with your friends and colleagues and encourage donations via our dedicated PayPal account. Please click here for details on how to donate.

30/03/15: SFP and Huwwara village march to commemorate Land Day

On Monday 30 March SFP activists joined the village of Huwwara, just south of Nablus city, to march in commemoration of Land Day. As activists marched from the local School to the main street, frequented by illegal settlers and Israeli solders, dozens of soldiers opened fired on the peaceful demonstrators.

Activists were sprayed in the face with pepper spray as they attempted to proceed down the road, and choked by the volleys of tear gas fired at them by the soldiers. Several Palestinian journalists were also assaulted by the soldiers as they attempted to document the march.

Land Day is marked every year around the world by Palestinians and international supporters. It commemorates the events which took place on 30 March 1976. It marked the first act of mass resistance by the Palestinians inside Apartheid Israel after years of brutal military rule. The Palestinians inside historical Palestine demonstrated against the Zionist policy of internal colonialisation, a systematic process that had reduced Palestinian land ownership from around 94 per cent of all territory in pre-1948 Palestine to less than three per cent in what is now considered to be Israel. The demonstrations were accompanied by a mass general strike of Palestinian workers and brutal repression from the Zionist forces, with many Palestinians killed and injured at the hands of Apartheid Israel. Policies that continue to this day.

SFP marched with the villagers of Huwwara and called for people around the world to join the struggle for freedom by joining the call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel. SFP will continue to support villages across Palestine to remain steadfast on the land.

27/03/15: SFP prisoners update

Following on from our update earlier in the week, Samer Maklouf and Mohammed Qaed appeared again before Ofer Military Court on Thursday 26 March. The Judge allowed the Prosecutor more time, intern the boys without trial or charge again, until Sunday 29 March. We hope that the original decision to release them both on 4000NIS fines will stand and they can come home to their worried families.

Thank you again to all those that have already donated to help us raise the money for the fines. We would be ever so grateful for your continued donations as we await the outcome of the Apartheid Court hearing on Sunday.

Ayman Gharib has been interned without trial or charge since December 2014. On 16 March his mother and wife went to visit him at Meggido prison but the prison authorities rescinded their permits and refused to allow them to see him. Ayman’s next Coirt appearance has also be postponed until 6 May 2015. By then he will have spent nearly 6 months away from his young family without any trial or charge brought against him by Apartheid Israel.

Ghassan Najjar has been held by Apartheid Israel since August 2014. He still has not received any trial or charge. Fortunately his father and sisters have also now been given visiting permits to visit him. His wife and baby son have also seen him. Ghassan has only met his son 3 times since he was born, 2 of those through prison glass. He is due back in Apartheid Military Court on 19 April 2015. By then he will have spent over 7 and half months in prison. His wife asks everyone around the world to please help bring Ghassan home, so he can hold his son again:

I know how frustrating it is, being back in our home countries and feeling helpless about what we can do to support the struggle, but contacting your MPs or other appropriate people and applying pressure is a massive thing we can do. If no one stands up to say it’s not right, if we become complacent then it looks like we are accepting this. I cannot accept that this will continue. I can just about handle visiting my husband in prison, I don’t want to have to visit our son in prison in 17 years time.

We would like to thank everyone around the world for their continued support. Please hear Ghassan’s wife’s call and write to your respective representatives and demand Ghassan and the other prisoners are released. For more details about SFP’s campaign to release Ghassan and contact details for letters please click here.

Thank you.

UPDATE: SFP would like to thank all those that kindly contributed towards our fund to pay for the fines to release Samer Maklouf and Mohammed Qaed. After agreeing to their release at Ofer Military Court and setting a fine of 4000NIS each on Tuesday 24 March, the Prosecutor has appealed the decision of the Israeli Apartheid Judge.

Samer and Mohammed are due back at Ofer Military Court tomorrow, Thursday 26 March at 08:30am. We are hoping the  decision will stand and we can pay the fine and secure their safe release to their families. We will keep you all updated and thank you again for your kind contributions.

We are still collecting funds for the fines if you were able to contribute SFP and their families would be very grateful. Please click here to donate.

20/03/15: SFP supports Deir Istiya and Wadi Qana remain steadfast

On Friday 20 March activists from SFP joined Deir Istiya villagers to March on Wadi Qana, an area of outstanding natural beauty and surrounded by illegal Jewish-only colonies. Earlier in the week the villagers had been issued with an order forbidding Palestinian to attend to the area, owned by villagers and with much of the villages arable land. The village had been told Friday’s would be reserved for the illegal settlers to maraud over the land.

In defiance of the order SFP activists joined villagers to work the land and prevent settler incursions. Villagers told activists the history of the area and the land and they were successful in preventing several settlers accessing the land. SFP pledged to provide more olive trees and thyme to plant the land further.

Wadi Qana is located west of the town Deir Istiya, north-west of Salfit, and is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in the occupied West Bank area of Palestine. It is rich with citrus and olive trees, thyme and springs of fresh water that meet in the valley.

Due to its importance and rich agricultural land Apartheid Israel has constantly tried to encroach further and further on the valley. It is surrounded by 6 illegal Jewish-only colonies. In previous actions SFP had been attacked by marauding young settlers and Israeli Army partrols, seeking to intimidate the Palestinian population. We kindly ask people around the world if they would help us help the villagers remain steadfast on their land and donate to our olive tree and thyme campaign. For details of the campaign and how to donate please click here.

15/03/15: SFP honour the memory of Rachel Corrie with Qaryut village, the Israeli Army attacks

On Sunday 15 March activists from SFP, accompanied by students from Birzeit University, took olive trees to the village of Qaryut, just south of Nablus, to plant trees for the international martyrs Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall and Vittorio Arrigoni, all murdered by the Israeli Occupation. They also planted trees for Tristan Anderson, injured by a tear gas canister shot at his head in the village of Nilin in 2008.

As activists planted the trees the Israeli Army attacked the peaceful action, knocking one of the Palestinians unconcious. The soldiers then prevented Red Crescent teams from administering first aid and dragged the unconcious youth by the arm across the rocky terrain. The soldiers eventually allowed the youth to be carried in a stretcher down the hillside. Footage released to the media by SFP shows the brutally of the soldiers attack.

Rachel Corrie was murdered on 16 March 2003 while trying to protect a Palestinians home in Rafah from an Israeli bulldozer. The bulldozer drove over Rachel and then reversed back with the blade down, killing the young activist. This followed shortly by the killing of Tom Hurndall on 11 April 2003 (Tom eventually died on 13 January 2004) by an Israeli sniper, while he was trying to rescue young Palestinian children in Rafah, terrified by the Israeli gun fire. Vittorio was murdered by allegded Salfist terrorists after being kidnapped in Gaza 2011. All three activists fought tirelessly for freedom for Palestine, and each year Palestinian activists remember and honour them, including SFP.

Qaryut village is surrounded by dozens of illegal Jewish-only colonies, which are constanting seeking to further encrouch and steal more Palestinian land. SFP has continually supported the village in their resistance to the illegal Occupation of their land and seeks to increase our support. We would ask people around the world if they would kindly consider donating to our campaign to buy olive trees and thyme (Palestinian herb planted and farmed largely by women)  to support the reclaiming of Palestinian land. Please click here for more details of the campaign and how you can donate.

12/03/15: SFP appeal to the International Red Cross to secure the release of the Hares Boys

On Thursday 12 March activists from SFP demonstrated outside the Nablus Headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross demanding the release of the Hares Boys and all Palestinian political prisoners. Demonstrators called on the Red Cross to intervene and demand the release of the 5 boys, held for nearly 2 years by Apartheid Israel and female Palestinian prisoners on the occassion of International Women’s Day.

The 5 boys have been held for nearly 2 years after being kidnapped from their village of Hares in the Salfit Governorate of the West Bank area of Palestine. Mohammad Suleiman, Ammar Souf, Mohammed Kleib, Tamer Souf, and Ali Shamlawi are being held in Israeli prison charged with 20 counts of attempted murder each for alleged stone-throwing, with no evidence whatsoever.

The boys “confessed”, under torture, to stone-throwing and since then they’ve been denied any sort of justice in the Apartheid Israeli military court system that convicts Palestinian children at a 99.7% rate.

SFP has been supporting the boys families and the campaign for the release of the 5 boys. Actions are due to take place around the world to mark the 2 year anniversary of the boys internment by Apartheid Israel and raise their plight. For more details about the campaign and actions taking place near you please visit the Facebook page here.

09/03/15: Settlers maraud across the northern West Bank, destroying olive trees and attacking farmers

On Monday 9 March Jewish settlers attacked Palestinian land in the northern West Bank area of Palestine. Settlers cut ancient olive trees belonging to the villages of Burin and Salem, near Nablus city.

In Salem, Jewish settlers from the illegal colony known as Elon Moreh bulldozed Palestinian land and cut 300 olive trees belonging to the Palestinian village of Salem. This act of terrorism was partnered with a confiscation order given to Salem villagers by the occupying Israeli Army. The order stated farmers were prohibited from cultivating their land, a vital activity for farmers to ensure a good crop of olives in the harvest. This is a standard tactic used by the Army to facilitate the illegal expansion of the colonies.

In Burin 75 ancient olive trees belonging to Ahmed Abdel Fatah, were cut by marauding Jewish settlers from the notoriously violent colony of Bracha, built on stolen village land.

Farmers, with DCO coordination, had gone to their land near the illegal colony only to be attacked by settlers, as Israeli soldiers looked on, refusing to intervene to stop attacks. It was during this assault that the farmers realised the terrorist settlers had also cut their trees.

SFP has and continues to support the villages of Salem and Burin, regularly supporting farmers to attend to their land whenever they wish. SFP also has purchased and planted new olive tree saplings in both villages to reinforce farmers, villagers and Palestinians steadfastness on their land. Just 2 months previously, on land today attacked by settlers, SFP planted olive trees with villagers from Salem.

We welcome donations in order for us to support more farmers and villages and reclaim the land from Apartheid Israel’s colony ambitions. Please click here to find out how to donate to our olive tree campaign.

07/03/15: SFP march for International Women’s Day – Apartheid Israel attacks

On Saturday 7 March, SFP, led by the women of SFP, marched with other Palestinian women’s groups towards Qalandiya checkpoint. As the women reached the checkpoint, which separates the West Bank area of Palestine from its capital city, Jerusalem, the Israeli Army opened fire on the demonstrators with volleys of tear gas and pepper spray. Several activists were transferred to Ramallah hospital for treatment after suffering suffocation from inhaling the toxic fumes.

Palestinian have continued to be leaders of the resistance against the illegal occupation of their land. While marching today the women called upon women around the world to join the Palestinians struggle for freedom and for the trail of Apartheid Israel for war crimes. The women also called for the complete rejection of the racist policies of the Occupation and freedom and independence for Palestinian women.

SFP congratulates women all over the world and salutes the brave women that lead the march for freedom everywhere. SFP will continue to support Palestinian women and the particular female prisoners as we stand together to gain our freedom.

06/03/15: SFP prisoners update – Dr. Yousef released

SFP is delighted to report that Dr. Yousef Abdul Haq, kidnapped from his home in Nablus on 26 August, has been released. He returned to his family on 15 February 2015 after spending 6 months in Israeli Apartheid prisons without charge or trial, known as administrative detention. SFP were there to welcome him home.

Dr. Yousef was emphatic in his request that we continue to work for the release of all Palestinian prisoners, not least the 463 (December 2014 figure) currently still being held under administrative detention in violation of international law.

Dr. Yousef said:

Everyday Apartheid Israel kidnaps many Palestinians from their family, Ghassan, Ayman, the boys of Hares are some of the 7,000 Palestinian detainees, sentenced by Apartheid Israeli military courts from one month to life sentence, just because they defended their right to freedom, justice and equality.

Unfortunately, we, as humanized humans do little for them. In Palestine, Arab countries and all over the world we must continue and increase our efforts and be more creative in our activities. For example, I suggest the establishment of a group of distinguished lawyers to call for an international conference to discuss Administrative detainees, or “political prisoners”, so as to find the best way to support them.

It is first step then we can go on. I feel extremely grateful to all of you, my humanized humans over all the world.

Stay humanized.

SFP would like to thank all those friends and supporters who sent messages to Dr. Yousef and his family during his detention. However, we ask you all to maintain pressure and step up your activities to support the release of all Palestine’ prisoners from Apartheid Israeli prisons.

SFP members Ghassan Najjar and Ayman Gharib still remain in Israeli prisons. We would ask that you continue to write to your respective representatives calling for their immediate release and undertake actions to target the profiteers of Israel’s brutal internment system.

Ghassan Najjar

Ghassan.JPGGhassan has been interned by Apartheid Israel since 27 August 2014 after being kidnapped from his home in Burin, just south of Nablus. Ghassan was held in Jalame interrogation facility for 1 month. The facility is notorious for torture.

He has now been transferred to Meggido prison, in violation of international law (Meggido lays within the UN ’48 Green line). His mother has been able to visit him twice and we are pleased to report that his wife and young son were also able to visit him in January. They hope to also attend his next Court appearance.

During the visit Ghassan was not able to hold his son, only the second time he had seen him since his birth, being divided by glass. He was only able to speak to his wife and son through a telephone connection. His mother and sister are due to visit him again this week and we will provide further updates on his well-being.

Ghassan is due to appear in Court again on 12 March 2015. He will have already been held for 7 months without trial or charge. The Israeli intelligence is seeking to imprison him for 2-3 years. His son will be 5 by the time his father is released.

Ayman Gharib

Ayman_Gharib.JPGAyman was kidnapped on 11 December 2014. He was held for 1 month at Jalame interrogation facility where he suffered ill health and was refused medical treatment. He has since been transferred to Meggido prison, in violation of international law.

His mother and wife were able to visit but were not able to hug or touch Ayman, who was separated by a glass divider. Ayman was also shackled in both his legs and wrists.

His mother is very concerned for his health and is keen for his immediate return to his young children and wife.

Ayman is due in Court on 19 March 2015. He will have already spent 4 months in prison without charge or trail. The Israeli intelligence is seeking 1-2 year imprisonment. We hope this will be 1 year and are liaising with lawyers and his family for constant updates.

Hares Boys

Mohammad Suleiman, Ammar Souf, Mohammed Kleib, Tamer Souf, and Ali Shamlawi are being held in Israeli Apartheid prison charged with 20 counts of attempted murder each for alleged stone-throwing, with no evidence whatsoever. On 16 March 2015 the boys will have spent 2 years in prison awaiting ‘trail’.

SFP will be visiting the village of Hares to show our support for the family. You can get more details about the case at the boys dedicated website here.

We implore you to continue to raise the issue of the 5 boys with your respective representatives and particularly consider actions and demonstrations you may be able to organise in your own countries on the 2 year anniversary of their internment.

The campaign is also asking for those holding international passports that are in Palestine to attend the next Court dates to show your support for the boys.

The boys are due in Salem Military Court (near Jenin, northern West Bank area of Palestine) on:

  • Tamer Souf: 25 February & 11 March 2015
  • Ali Shamlawi: 12 March 2015
  • Mohammed K., Mohammed S. & Ammar Souf: 16 March 2015
